The Football Association has asked Wharton’s Neil Tunnicliffe to assist them in working through the corporate governance requirements imposed by UK Sport now that the Great Britain Disability Football Association is to receive World Class funding in preparation for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Neil was instrumental in setting up the GBDFA in 2007, bringing together a range of home nation football associations and disability sports organisations to form an association which could govern and manage Blind and CP Football at Great Britain level. More recently he has assisted The FA in putting together its bid for funding from UK Sport, which was successful in realising £1.3 million through to the Rio Games. The task now is to ensure that the Board of the GBDFA continues to be fit for purpose as it prepares to receive and manage that funding from the start of the 2013-14 financial year.
